Telkomsel Plans to Build 63 Telecommunication Towers in Remote Areas
As we all know, telecommunication access hasn’t been equally spread in Indonesia. All telecommunication operators keep making efforts to build proper network infrastructure to every corner of Indonesia, including Telkomsel, which plans to build 63 telecommunication towers in remote areas.
Telkomsel has been building network infrastructure to remote areas, including populated areas which hadn’t gotten telecommunication access. This year, Telkomsel has a plan to build 63 telecommunication towers or Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) in remote areas through Merah Putih program.
A total of 63 BTS will be spread in various Indonesia areas, such as: NTT (16 BTS), NTB (7 BTS), Maluku (11 BTS), Sulawesi (21 BTS), Papua (5 BTS), and Riau Island (3 BTS).
The presence of 63 new BTS in the said areas are expected to be able to serve communication needs from around 120.000 inhabitants, who previously have difficulty in accessing telecommunication service.
Since their first launch in 2008, Telkomsel Merah Putih project has been successfully opening network telecommunication at 450 locations, from the farthest west to the farthest east of Indonesia—and has been improving their service, whether in its quality or capacity.
Telkomsel has vision to unite Indonesia by providing telecommunication service in various Indonesia areas, so that citizens can be connected anywhere and everywhere. This commitment is shown by their consistency to support remote areas so that the areas won’t be isolated communication-wise.
These days, telecommunication isn’t primary need for only inhabitants in big cities, but also the ones in remote areas. That’s why, Telkomsel has been trying to fulfill citizen’s needs through means of communication service. Therefore, there will be more and more people in remote areas who can enjoy telecommunication service with the same quality standard of other areas in Indonesia.
In Merah Putih program, Telkomsel applies technology with the concept of remote solution system, Very Small Aperture Terminal-Internet Protocol (VSAT-IP)—which is satellite-based—added with power supply technology using solar panel system.
This technology is a fitting solution to be applied to remote areas with very limited infrastructure and extreme geographical condition, like in rural areas. With the implementation of this technology, more and more citizens can enjoy call, SMS, and internet service with adequate quality.
