Indosat did refarming of the 2,1-GHz frequency to be utilized by users for communication or internet utilization, especially in urban areas.

Communication network has become a very important matter for people, especially the urban ones. It can even be said that it has become the current primary need.

Sadly, in urban areas, telecommunication network has become even more difficult. Maybe because of overwhelming number of users that network traffic had become congested.

That’s why, the government auctioned three blocks of radio frequency band to every telecommunication operator at the end of 2017. This was done to accrue the capacity of national telecommunication network, especially in big cities that have a lot of users.

Finally, they got some winners. One of them was Indosat, who won the auction of 2,1-GHz frequency.

In the recent development, Indosat had finished refarming of 2,1-GHz radio frequency band. Jakarta-1 and Central Java-3 clusters are the last clusters of the refarming of frequency band that had been done on February 12th.

That frequency refarming was finished faster than the schedule targeted by Ministry of Communication and Information, which was on March 1st, 2018. This project was divided into 24 clusters nationally and executed gradually by every operator, with target completion date on April 25th, 2018.

This frequency band refarming is done so that it can be utilized for telecommunication and internet network. In the future, frequency refarming is expected to be able to give big social and economic impact to every level of society.

The frequency band refarming will stimulate broadband penetration in Indonesia, which will impact the growth of national economy and public welfare, since it gives them information and market access by means of technology. This is one point in how telecommunication sector can improve socio-economy in a country.

By finishing this activity of refarming frequency bands, telecommunication operators are expected to help actualize Indonesia’s vision to be the biggest digital economy country in 2020. The government estimates to have more than US$ 130 trillion with 50% of yearly growth from online business, of which
